One of those materials that you find yourself reaching for way more than you ever expected, Wapsi's Gray Fox Hair can be used in a variety of different ways, whether you're swinging for salmon, stripping crawfish for smallmouth, or drifting nymphs for trout. These Gray Fox patches come from prime tanned hide and have long fibers as well as a ton of underfur that can be used as dubbing. Gray Fox hair has shades of light cinnamon and grey, making it a great choice whenever you need a natural appearance.
Uses
The guard hairs found on Gray Fox patches are commonly used as a wing material on streamers and steelhead/salmon flies, and those hairs do an excellent job at that application. However, with its buggy underfur, this patch can be used for a ton of different dubbing purposes-from scuds and sowbugs all the way to mayflies, stoneflies, and caddisflies, this dubbing is sure to make your patterns look nice and lively.
Comparisons
Gray Fox is a pretty unique fur, and there isn't really anything out there that's exactly alike. Something that's somewhat similar is Badger Fur-like Gray Fox, Badger has long guard hairs (decently longer than Gray Fox Hair) that can be used as wings on streamers and salmon/steelhead flies and the underfur can also be dubbed. Although this is a similar material, it's not exactly alike and the color certainly isn't the same as Gray Fox, so depending on what you're tying or imitating, Gray Fox may be a more suitable option.
