The Story

From the depths of David Nelson's mind comes Squimpish's Loose Synthetic Hair. A revolutionary tying material, Squimpish Hair has lengths ranging from 4-9, allowing you to imitate anything from small gizzard shad to massive bunker. This synthetic material sheds water quickly, has a uniform diameter, and can be trimmed to achieve the perfect taper-a rare quality in most materials like this and one that provides a natural look. The Loose Synthetic Hair is packaged in bundles and comes in a massive range of colors, so whether you're imitating the American eel for striped bass or perch for freshwater pike, finding the perfect color is as easy as it gets.

Uses

Squimpish's Loose Synthetic Hair offers versatility across a range of patterns and fly types. With its long length, this material can be used to imitate large baits, ranging from mullet and mackerel all the way to herring and pogies, and not only that, but the ability to trim these fibers to any length you like without disrupting the taper lets you imitate small baits like dace, grass shrimp, and bay anchovies just as easily. Squimpish Hair is also an excellent material when utilizing Bob Popovics's Hollow tying technique and it's a bit more forgiving than bucktail can be when hollow tying. An excellent choice whether fishing fresh or saltwater, Squimpish Hair sheds water quickly and makes casting flies of every size a breeze.

Comparisons

Squimpish Hair is a material that's pretty unique and there isn't another super close alternative. Squimpish allows you to tie flies both big and small while achieving beautiful taper with ease, and it also has a texture and consistency that's unlike any other material. Craft Fur has a somewhat similar consistency, but the length is much shorter and it doesn't have the same versatility across fly sizes. Another material that can be used similarly is Bucktail. Bucktail can be hollow tied to create perfectly tapered baitfish, but there's a lot less consistency between tails than there is with Squimpish Hair; additionally, bucktail is a bit harder to work with than Squimpish Hair.

  • 100% synthetic fiber material best described as a cross between bucktail and polar bear
  • Custom colorway with no color bleed
  • Fibers in blends are 4-9 in length, making them perfect for a wide range of fly sizes
  • Squimpish fibers are the same diameter from base to tip but staggered in length creating a very natural taper
  • Can be cut to any length and reshuffled to bring back the natural taper and shape
  • Blend-able and stackable, allowing for endless possibilities in creating your ideal fly
  • Handmade in small batches for consistent quality and attention to detail
  • Retains little to no water, shedding water with ease on each cast
