The Story

The RIO Ambassador Series Gary Struznik Skagit Timberline Head is a purpose-built, pro-designed Skagit head created to deliver effortless power and control across the dynamic conditions of steelhead fishing. Crafted in collaboration with Gary Struznik, one of the Pacific Northwest’s most respected steelhead guides and a longtime innovator in two-handed casting, this line brings his deep understanding of tight-cover rivers, short rods, and heavy rigs directly into your hands.

With its compact 18-foot design, the Timberline loads quickly, fires heavy setups with ease, and maintains loop stability and accuracy even in the most confined spaces. It’s a true reflection of Struznik’s decades on the water—streamlined, balanced, and relentlessly effective. An excellent tool whether you're chasing chromed-out steel on the West Coast or heading to the Salmon River for a week, this head has you covered for every month of steelhead season.

Uses

Salmon/Steelhead Flies, Wet Flies, Streamers - The Skagit Timberline head is built for steelhead anglers who demand adaptability and strength. It’s at home on coastal rivers, tight canyon runs, or anywhere space and precision matter. Designed for pairing with T-tips and your preferred running line, the Timberline’s compact power makes it perfect for throwing heavier Intruders, marabou flies, or modern composite-loop patterns with confidence and finesse.

Temp

Cold to Moderate Water - The Timberline head is optimized for steelheading environments typical of the Pacific Northwest and coastal systems—performing consistently in cool to moderate water temperatures where line suppleness and turnover control are critical and steelhead are most apt to eat.

Taper/Weight

More Mass Towards the Back Taper - The 18-foot, rear-loaded head promotes exceptional turnover and line speed with minimal effort, giving you stable loops and powerful delivery in short casting windows. Available in 500gr (7wt), 540gr (7/8wt), and 580gr (8wt) grain weights for ideal pairing with shorter Spey and switch rods across all steelhead/salmon environments.
