The Story

New for the Spring 2020 season, Sage's do-it-all mid-priced rod series, the SONIC, features versatility never before seen from Sage. Sage is known for its high-performance rod series, like the Igniter, ONE, X, and more. Those rods cater to a specific angler in a technical situation when certain rod characteristics are important. The all-new SONIC rods, on the other hand, are built for extreme versatility in a wide range of angling scenarios.

Throwing streamers out of a drift boat for trout? The SONIC 6wt is a great choice. Targeting Bonefish on the flats or snook in the mangroves? Check out the 9', 9' 6, and 10' 8wt rod models. Hoping to land a small dry fly delicately at medium distances on your favorite spring creek? The 8' 6 4wt ought to do the job. These rods come in a variety of models so that you can choose the model that best fits your needs. And the best part is that Sage has made this series more affordable than ever.

Sage packages affordability and versatility in a handsome juniper rod blank color with charcoal thread wraps that blend well with the black rod accents. Like every Sage rod, this family is made right here in the USA for the ultimate combination of made-at-home performance and fly fishing affordability that's unmatched in today's industry. If you're an angler looking for the next best mid-priced fly rod series, you've found it.

Konnetic Technology - Konnetic Tech combines unique proprietary carbon/resin composites and advanced modulus positioning to create rods that are lighter, slimmer, and stronger, a deadly combination. Konnetic Technology is also known for its ability to limit lateral rod wobble and improve tracking for straighter, more accurate casts. Konnetic Technology means the SONIC is an incredibly efficient rod on the flats, in the river, and from a boat.

Guides

Fuji Ceramic Stripping Guides - Fuji Ceramic Stripping Guides allow anglers to shoot line effortlessly when casting the SONIC. Fuji guides also have a durable design to minimize weathering and wear in all water conditions, freshwater or saltwater.

Hard Chromed Snake Guides - Snake guides offer industry-accepted performance and time-proven durability. The stripping guides and snake guides of the SONIC are classic Sage componentry, nothing new is happening here.

Reel Seat

Uplocking w/Hardwood Insert - The freshwater SONIC rods (3wt-6wt) feature a hardwood reel seat with a single anodized aluminum uplocking component. The reel seats on these rods are functional and stylish without being overly heavy or expensive. These rods also feature a Super Plus grade cork handle in the same snub-nose half-wells configuration Sage has been using on their freshwater rods for years.

Double Uplocking w/Matte Slate Anodized Aluminum - The larger models of the SONIC have a reel seat that is corrosion resistant and weatherproof. Matte Slate anodized aluminum protects against wear, and a double uplocking component locks large saltwater fly reels in place. The handle of the SONIC is made with top-notch, Super Plus grade cork with an EVA fighting butt that's smooth in hand and perseveres through seasons on the water.

Rod Tube

Powder Coated Aluminum Rod Tube - The SONIC comes in a classic matte black powder-coated aluminum rod tube with the easily identifiable Sage medallion. The aluminum rod tube keeps the SONIC safe during travel and time off of the water.

Warranty

The Sage Lifetime Warranty - As of January 2021, every new Sage rod, blank, and Sage reel is covered by a lifetime, original owner warranty. One of the finest warranties in the business, it covers defects in materials or workmanship as well as rods that fail due to misuse, negligence, or normal wear-and-tear. Repair fees are based on the age of the rod, and Sage charges a $30 processing fee for rods that are part of the current lineup.
