Royal Coachman Trude Dry Fly

Taking inspiration from two well-known flies--the Royal Coachmen and the Trude--the Royal Coachmen Trude Fly is an attractor pattern that will fool anything from native brookies to stocked 'bows. Designed to grab attention, float high, and be able to handle rough water, the Royal Coachmen Trude has a calf hair wing, Golden Pheasant crest tail, peacock and floss body, and a heavily hackled thorax. All of these materials come together to create a fly that floats well and looks darn good.

While the Royal Coachmen Trude is an excellent attractor and searching pattern, it can also work as a caddis imitation whenever you need a fly that really stands out. The Royal Coachmen Trude can be fished a number of ways, with a drag-free drift or a skittered presentation being most popular. Carry it in sizes 12-16 from the start of spring through the end of fall, the Royal Coachmen Trude is an excellent addition to any dry fly box.
