The Story

A new line from Rio that’s perfect for those of us who tend to fish the bulky stuff that doesn’t require ultra-finesse presentations, the Gold Max Elite Fly Line is ready for anything from clunky multi-nymph rigs to massive Chernobyls. Made one full-size heavy, the Elite Gold Max loads modern rods flawlessly. At the same time, its short head (the shortest in all of the Gold offerings) focuses the weight toward the back of the body to help you turn over heavy or air-resistant rigs. Its short front taper then combines with the body to mend like a champ and let you hit those across-the-river targets with ease. Rio makes the Gold Max Elite series in line weights 4 through 9, providing all of the versatility you need regardless of how the fish are behaving. A line that brings top-notch control to heavy and air-resistant rigs, the Gold Max Elite is a solid choice whether you’re staring down an 8-hour shift of banging the banks with big foam terrestrials or working streamers out of a drift boat.

Features

SlickCast and ConnectCore- For top-tier line slickness and castability, Rio works their SlickCast coating into this series of lines. SlickCast is Rio’s proprietary technology that massively increases your line slickness and durability while massively decreasing your line’s friction.

With their ConnectCore technology, Rio is able to reduce line stretch by roughly 30% while also increasing your line’s coating smoothness, durability, general performance, and sensitivity. ConnectCore is an excellent feature whenever you’re coming tight to a fish and need to deeply set the hook. This tech even reduces memory, making hand-stretching your line in between sessions nice and easy without hassle.

Uses

Dry Flies/Terrestrials, Nymphs, and Streamers - Rio made their Gold Max Elite Line for presenting large, heavy, and air-resistant patterns. This means that it’s a great choice for presenting big/foam dry flies, streamers, and heavy nymphs, and should you come across an afternoon hatch, you’ll still be able to drop smaller flies with finesse.

Temp

Cold - Designed to tackle all of the environments and seasons conducive to trout fishing, Rio’s Gold Max Elite is made for coldwater use. This allows you to fish anything from a snowy winter day to a warm summer morning when the fish are crushing ‘hoppers.

Taper/Weight

Short Head w/ More Weight Towards the Back of the Body and a Short Front Taper - Rio’s Gold Max Elite Line is one full line size heavy and has a pretty complex taper that combines a short head with more weight towards the back of the body and a short front taper. All of this combines to perfectly load modern rods while turning over and presenting heavy and/or air-resistant rigs. This taper increases power and makes solid performance nice and easy.
