Designed for use by the single-hand steelheader, Rio's Elite Salmon/Steelhead Fly Line will take you from catching kings in Pulaski, NY to steelhead on the rivers of the west coast. Pairing a long head with a long rear taper makes for easy mending, allowing you to fine-tune your presentation no matter how variable the currents may be. With this unique taper, you can count on quick roll-casts and single-hand spey casts when in those canyon-like stretches of water. This line features Rio's SlickCast coating to help you make those long casts as well as their ConnectCore to ensure minimal stretch when setting the hook and when some fresh chrome takes off upstream. Made in line weights 6 through 10, this line has an option whether you're dealing with dropback steelhead in the spring or larger salmon in the fall.
Features
SlickCast and ConnectCore - For exceptional line slickness and castability, Rio incorporates their SlickCast coating into this series of lines. SlickCast is Rio's proprietary technology that massively increases your line's slickness while decreasing friction and enhancing durability.
With their ConnectCore technology, Rio is able to decrease line stretch by roughly 30% while also increasing your line's coating smoothness, durability, general performance, and sensitivity. ConnectCore is also an excellent feature whenever you're coming tight to a fish and need to deeply set the hook, and it even reduces memory, making hand-stretching your line in between sessions nice and easy without hassle.
Uses
Nymphs, Wet Flies, Dry Flies, and Streamers - Rio's Elite Salmon/Steelhead series are do-it-all lines that can handle just about any steelhead fly in your box. Whether you're facing a rare opportunity where steelhead are crushing dry flies or using something more classic like an egg or Wooly Bugger, this line delivers them all with the same finesse.
Temperature
Cold/Moderate - Built to target steelhead and salmon, this line is made for cold to moderate water temperatures. From the middle of winter to those balmy spring days, you can rely on this line to prevent jam-ups for all of the conditions you'd typically face when pursuing salmon and steelhead.
Taper/Weight
Long Head and Rear Taper with Bullet Front Taper - Rio understands that steelhead may have you tightline nymphing in the morning, swinging streamers in the afternoon, and finishing the day with drifting a Glo Bug under an indicator. They've made this line with a solid taper for it all. With its long head and rear taper, Rio provides the perfect taper for mending over currents at nearly any distance as well as controlling your fly while it's swinging. With the Bullet front taper, casting larger streamers in inclement weather just got a whole lot easier.
