Red Quill Dry Fly

A timeless representation of an adult Hendrickson mayfly, the Red Quill Dry Fly has been fooling Hendrickson-eating trout for decades. Originally designed by Art Flick in the year 1933 as a Hendrickson imitation, the Red Quill hasn't changed much since then. Sporting a classy Catskill look, the Red Quill has a dun tail and hackle, segmented quill body, and mallard wings that all tie together to give an elegant appearance that does a fine job at fooling trout.

Since this is a direct representation of the adult Hendrickson, you won't want to fish the Red Quill as a prospecting fly, but rather fish it whenever you see the naturals emerging. It's essential to reduce the drag when presenting this fly as well, and you'll find the bulk of the Hendrickson hatching in early spring.
