Morrish Hopper Fly

The Morrish Hopper may well be the king of all hopper patterns. Legendary tyer Ken Morrish created this pattern after observing multiple species of grasshoppers both in and out of the water and 7 months of prototyping. Tied with three pieces of foam, it floats high and provides a near-perfect profile of a real grasshopper and has the rare distinction of being both a realistic imitation AND an attractor pattern. Tack on a high vis piece of foam on the top and it’s perfect for any late summer fly fishing adventure. We dare you to find a hopper that catches more fish. You can’t.

The Morrish Hopper fly can be fished with a dead drift, twitched, or as the lead fly in the ever-popular “Hopper Dropper” nymph rig. Tan and pink in sizes 8-12 are generally the most effective.
