The Story

The Loon Trash Bin Kit from Loon Outdoors is a compact, bench-side catcher that keeps trimmings, tag ends, and stray fibers contained while you tie. It positions under your vise to catch waste right where it falls, which keeps your tying surface clear, reduces cleanup time, and prevents debris from drifting into materials or tools. The bin collapses flat for storage and travel, then pops open with a stable rim when you're ready to tie.

Built for everyday use at the bench or on the road, the kit pairs a lightweight, rinseable bin with an adjustable mount that fits most common vise stems. The rim holds its shape so you can sweep in deer hair, hackle tips, and wire snips without fighting a floppy edge, and the soft-sided body makes emptying quick—just lift, dump, and get back to tying.

How to Use It

Attach the mount to your vise stem and pivot the arm so the bin’s rim sits directly under the hook, leaving enough clearance for your bobbin and hands. Adjust height and angle so trimmings naturally fall into the opening, whether you’re tying standard or rotary; if you rotate the vise often, bias the rim slightly forward of the hook shank to catch debris as it sheds.

As you clip materials, sweep the waste in with the side of your scissors or the back of your hand. When the bin fills, lift it off the mount and empty it into a larger trash can. Rinse the liner occasionally with mild soap to remove wax and head cement residue, then air dry flat so it pops back open cleanly at the next session.

Why We Like It

It meaningfully reduces clutter and cross-contamination of materials. By catching waste at the source, you avoid dubbing fibers hitchhiking onto waxed thread, deer hair drifting into a neat stack of CDC, or wire trimmings hiding under tools. The setup is fast, the footprint is small, and it plays nicely with both fixed and rotary tying styles.

The collapsible design packs easily for travel, and the rinseable liner handles everyday abuse from adhesives and fine metal bits. Compatibility with common vise stems and the firm, easy-to-hit rim make it a simple upgrade that immediately improves workflow and cleanliness.
