Lamson's already-classic Speedster has been reworked. The Speedster S features higher retrieval rates, some important design changes, and a new range of colors. Lamson has always made some of our favorite freshwater fly reels, and the Speedster S is no departure from that tradition. Lightweight, extremely durable, and user-friendly, this reel was designed with a specific purpose: to help you land more fish. The HD is available in sizes from 6wt through 10wt and is a great option for saltwater fishing.
Design
Hot Rod of a Reel - The new and improved Speedster reel from Lamson features a narrower spool, inboard mounted handle, and a larger spool diameter than ever before. This reel is specifically structured for the highest retrieval rates possible. The inboard handle and added spool circumference are a large reason the new reel has such high retrieval rates. Add durable finishing, a classic Lamson construction, and it's easy to see why this reel is better than ever before.
Finish
Type II Anodize - The finish on the Speedster S is made to protect the reel when it's dropped or dinged. Type II anodizing is strong and durable for increased reel life and worry-free angling. Many major manufacturers use this finishing because of its lightweight makeup and rigid protection from the elements.
Materials
Machined 6061 Aluminum - The Speedster S is built with 6061 Aluminum, which has a few benefits. 6061 is both abrasion-resistant and corrosion-resistant. If you happen to drop or ding your reel, 6061 resists corrosion even when abraded. This type of aluminum is commonly used in aircraft and boat/automotive construction and contributes to the Speedster's lightweight, durable construction. The reel also includes parts that are Stainless Steel.
Drag
Type - The Speedster S, like many other Lamson reels, comes with a sealed Conical Drag System. A Conical Drag is lightweight and extremely strong. Lamson is known for this system, and they've perfected it over many years of research, development, and design.
Materials - The Conical Drag of the Speedster S is made with a proprietary Teflon/Delrin Alloy that's blitzing strong and seriously lightweight. Lamson has perfected the balance of weight vs. strength in this reel, and this proprietary Alloy is a major reason why.
Arbor Size
Super Large Arbor - The ultra-large arbor of the Speedster S increases line pickup and helps anglers fight the largest fish in both saltwater and freshwater scenarios. Most contemporary fly reels are made with a large arbor design to allow anglers to pick up as much line as possible with as little work as possible. The Speedster S has an even larger arbor for some of the highest retrieval rates in the game.
Warranty
Waterworks-Lamson Lifetime Warranty - Lamson's Lifetime Warranty is valid for any defect in material or workmanship for the original owner of the fly reel. As of October 2019, Lamson charges a $30 reel warranty shipping and handling fee.
