The Story

Created by Charlie Craven over twenty years ago to fool weary and selective trout in the Chessman Canyon, the Jujubee Midge Fly has proven itself as a successful midge larva or pupa imitation all over the country. Taking an unorthodox approach to tying trout flies, the Jujubee Midge came about whenever Charlie was whipping up some barracuda flies and realized that the SuperHair material he was working with would create a great segmented look when wound as a body on smaller midge flies. Success, durability, and realism were achieved, and Charlie then finished the fly off with a dubbed thorax and Fluoro-Fiber wingcase and legs to create what has quickly become a favorite midge pattern for anglers everywhere.

Since the Jujubee Midge is a midge imitation, it pays to fish it in smaller sizes like 18-22 in a range of colors that match what's in your water at any time of the year. Although midges do remain active throughout the winter, the Jujubee Midge gives a solid approach to matching those tiny insects hatching on cold days. The Jujubee can be fished like most other small nymphs as a trailer in a two-nymph rig or on its own under an indicator or on a tight line, and because midges are such a prolific insect, you can fish the Jujubee with confidence whether you're casting into a swift run, a slow pool, or even a still pond.

Colors Available:

Blue, Brown, Chartreuse, Olive, Red, Zebra

18, 20, 22
