The Story

Offering more than your standard bag of strung Peacock Herl, Hareline's full Peacock Eyed Sticks give you the full Peacock Eye feather packed with high-quality herl. These long eye feathers provide lovely full strands of Peacock Herl that are perfect for wrapping or for tying onto the backs of streamers to provide contrast. When added to a fly, Peacock Herl brings a natural range of colors and flash that few other materials can offer, and many anglers have valued this material for its fish-attracting abilities. Available in both natural and dyed color options, these feathers give versatility to your tying while letting you use some of the highest-quality peacock feathers around.

Uses

The Peacock Herl on these Eyed Feathers is a material that's been used for many years in fly tying, and it's also a material with a ton of different uses. Herl is commonly used for things like wrapping bodies and/or thoraxes on nymphs, wet flies, and dry flies, and it's also an excellent choice when tying streamers, as it can be used to imitate the contrasting back color. Herl can also be stripped to provide excellent natural segmentation on nymphs, dry flies, and wet flies. Additionally, steelhead and salmon anglers have been using Peacock Herl in various applications for quite some time, and the crafty tier will find uses for the fibers that make up the Eye in ways like making nymph wingcases or even using the whole eye for massive saltwater patterns.

Comparisons

There really is no feather quite like the Peacock Eye. Hareline's Strung Peacock Herl is essentially the same product, but it doesn't have the full eye feather and the quality usually found in the full feathers. So if you're looking for high-quality fibers or want to use the full eye for tying, it's best to go with the Peacock Eyed Sticks.

Example Flies

While there are a ton of flies that utilize Peacock Feathers, a few of the most common are:

Pheasant Tail Nymph
Royal Wulff
Drew Chicone's Devil's Daughter
