Uses

Chironomid Braid was designed to wrap bodies on small chironomid patterns. While it does that exceptionally well, you can also turn to it anytime you're looking for a slim body with just a hint of sheen to it, and it does an excellent job at tying tiny panfish flies.

Comparisons

Since most body braids are much thicker than you'd want when tying chironomids, it's hard to find a perfect alternative to Chironomid Braid, but if you really need an alternative, you can wrap Krystal Flash as a body, but it won't give nearly the same effect as Chironomid Braid, nor will it be as durable.
