The Hardy Ultralite NS Spey Rod embraces the philosophy that "two hands are better than one" with a new design that's focused on efficiency, feel, and control—giving anglers the ability to cast farther, manage heavier systems, and stay connected throughout the swing. Covering the dedicated Spey lengths from 12’6” through 16’, the Ultralite NS Spey blends lightweight responsiveness with the power needed for big water and strong anadromous fish. Built around Hardy’s advanced Sintrix NSX platform, these rods deliver exceptional balance and feedback while maintaining the strength required for long days, heavy tips, and challenging conditions. It’s a rod designed to make two-handed fishing feel intuitive rather than demanding, while the Ultralite NSX's ability to present a range of different line styles, fly patterns, and cover everything from water-anchor casting in large rivers all the way to overhead casting for striped bass along the sandy coast of our home state of Maine. For added convenience, Hardy makes this series in a 4 and 6-piece construction, removing the frequent hassle of traveling with Spey rods.

Sintrix NSX Carbon Construction – Hardy's Ultralite NS Spey series is built using Hardy’s Sintrix NSX technology, a refined composite that combines high-modulus carbon fiber with nano-silica resin for increased strength, reduced weight, and ultra-crisp recovery. This advanced material enhances feel and line control while maintaining the power needed for sustained Spey casting and fish-fighting ability.
Th Ultralite NSX blank loads smoothly, recovers cleanly, and offers excellent balance across longer lengths—ideal for managing modern Spey lines and maintaining control through the entirety of the swing. A clean green color to the blank with accented thread wraps completes the aesthetic look of this rod, making it feel at home whether you're in the middle of the Pacific Northwest or along the banks of the Cattaraugus River.

Ceramic-Lined Titanium Recoil Guides – Lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and designed for smooth line flow under tension, Hardy's Ceramic-Lined Titanium Recoil Guides are a premium choice that reduces friction while standing up to the demands of Spey casting and heavy running lines. And while the durability of these guides can't go understated, an added benefit is how much easier it is to free ice from these dynamic, bendable guides compared to those that are more stiff and rigid--an excellent benefit for those hearty anglers who fish even in the coldest conditions.
Reel Seat
Custom Aluminum and Carbon Reel Seat – Hardy's Custom Aluminum and Carbon Reel Seat is a lightweight yet durable design that enhances balance and sensitivity while providing a secure, reliable platform for larger Spey reels. Additionally, this lightweight reel seat resists corrosion, allowing you to fish this rod in any environment.
Rod Tube
Hardy packages their Ultralite NSX Rod in a durable hard case designed to protect long two-handed rods during transport and travel. Unlike other rod tubes, Hardy's is built around a square-design, to prevent your rod from rolling around when things get rocky.
Warranty
As of December 2025, Hardy’s Ultralite NSX Fly Rods are covered by their Worldwide Extended Warranty. This warranty is pretty straightforward, and for $75, it covers the repair or replacement of your rod.
