Uses

With a slightly curved shank and wide gap, this hook can be used to imitate things like larvae, pupae, scuds/sowbugs, emergers, and any nymph pattern that you want to have a curved profile.

Another great all-purpose curved shank nymph hook is Tiemco’s TMC 2487BL Barbless Shrimp and Caddis Pupae Hooks. These hooks have a similar bend with a wide gap and barbless construction, and they can be used for most of the same patterns. Two differences between the Competition 530BL and TMC 2487BL are that the 2487BL Hooks have a downturned eye, as opposed to the Competition 530BL's straight eye, and the 2487BL Hook has a bronze finish instead of the black nickel finish used on the 530BL.
