The Story

Most of the time when thinking of dry flies, things like parachutes, Catskill wings, fur wings, and others come to mind, however, the Hackle Stacker Fly takes an effective approach without utilizing any of the above. Invented by Bob Quigley, the Hackle Stacker style of flies lets your fly ride perfectly in the water without a wing at all while giving an imprint that very closely resembles an adult mayfly. The Hackle Stacker Fly is a great pattern for matching mayfly hatches, and depending on size and color, it can imitate most mayflies that you'll encounter.

The Hackle Stacker Fly is a great choice for water where the trout are picky, so places like slow, deep pools, limestone waters, and even ponds are a great bet. This is a fly that can be fished like most other dry flies, with a drag-free drift being imperative. An excellent choice anytime you notice mayflies emerging, it pays to carry the Hackle Stacker in a few different colors and sizes from the beginning of spring through the end of fall.
