From small stream brook trout action to lowland smallmouth river fishing and all the way to freshly run steelhead in the Great Lake tribs, with their Kite series, Greys brings a versatile family of rods to the market that can adapt to just about any scenario you throw their way. Replacing some of their more popular models, Greys’ Kite Fly Rod picks up where those rods left off to deliver you a fast action rod in a flexible range of line weights. Starting at 6’ 3 weight and bumping all the way into a 9’6” 8 weight, the Kite provides options to cover just about any freshwater situation you come across, and with its lightweight feel and fast action, you get a rod that feels good when casting yet has just enough reserve power to handle gusts of wind and tough fights. And while the Kite is a rod that focuses on clean casting and fishabiltiy, it comes with some solid componentry like an asymmetrical reel seat, AAA grade cork handle, and a TOREON blank that makes it a joy to fish for years to come.
Blank
TOREON Blank- “Lighter, stronger, and more responsive” is exactly how Greys defines their TOREON blank technology, and while that statement leaves some pretty large shoes to fill, the Kite series of rods does it flawlessly. With their TOREON tech, Greys creates alternate dispersion within the resin and fibers of the blank in order to increase the control over Carbon Nano Tubes (CNTs). This process results in a 10%-20% improvement over standard fibre tech in areas like flexural strength, stiffness, and resistance to damage caused by external impacts.
Although the Kite Rods are packed with useful technology, they also feature a clean grey color to the blank. This grey color offers a subdued appearance that isn’t flashy and it won’t spook fish on bright days with clear water.
Guides
Lined Stripping Guides - Lined to maximize your shootabilty and line speed with a lightweight feel that doesn’t bog your arm or the rod down, these stripping guides are a great addition to the Kite Rod. A solid choice for this price point, you can rely on these stripping guides to handle long seasons on the water.
Single-Foot Snake Guides - Greys finishes off their Kite with snake guides that have a single-foot design. This construction further decreases the weight of your rod without sacrificing durability or that lightweight feel that we’re all looking for.
Reel Seat
Alloy Reel Seat with Wood or Alloy Spacer (depending on model) - Greys builds this reel seat with an asymmetrical design and dual uplocking rings. The asymmetry is inconspicuous, and this construction works to keep your reel locked in all day long. And depending on which line weight you select, you’ll get a wood or alloy spacer–regardless of choice, both have solid durability and a look that you’ll love for years.
Rod Tube
The Kite Fly Rods come with a rod bag and hard tube, which safely stores them for any trip you have planned.
Warranty
As of October 2022, Greys offers a lifetime warranty for their Kite series. In order to be eligible for this warranty, you must register your rod within 60 days of ownership. This warranty requires a fee to process, and it will cover the repair or replacement (at Greys’ discretion) of your rod for things like damage or broken/defective sections.
