The Story

Building on one of the most popular high-end fly rods on the market, G. Loomis’ all-new Asquith 2 series represents a top-of-the-line performance increase over the original Asquith–while those are big shoes to fill, the Asquith 2 executes it flawlessly by maintaining the legendary Spiral X Core blank while decreasing the rod’s swing weight and using state-of-the-art components across the rod’s entire build. Designed to decrease fatigue during long days on the water, the Asquith 2 has completely refined the energy transfer through the blank, creating a tool that feels virtually weightless in the hand yet generates line speed that defies physics and loop control that makes it easier than ever to hit dinnerplate-sized targets from lengthy distances. Loomis carefully builds each of their new Asquith 2 Fly Rods in Woodland, Washington, across line weights beginning with a 4 and bumping all the way to a 12. Performance-driven, made with ultra-premium componentry, backed by  a rock-solid warranty, and designed with decades of rod designing experience, the Asquith 2 is a tool that you can confidently rely on whether you are stalking spooky permit on glassy flats or threading a streamer through structure on a wide riverbend.

Blank

Spiral X Core Blank - At the core of this rod lies an evolution of Shimano’s proprietary Spiral X technology. Unlike traditional graphite rolling methods, the Asquith 2 utilizes an infinite tape wrapping process that eliminates the spine and drastically reduces torsional twist during the cast. This results in immediate recovery and a rod that tracks truer than anything else on the water. The action remains fast and authoritative, but the tip section has been re-engineered to offer improved tactile feedback for short-range presentations without sacrificing the immense power reserve needed for long-distance delivery.

The Spiral X Core blanks are rolled in Kumamoto, Japan and is finished in a deep, lustrous emerald, signaling a premium pedigree that sports class for years and years to come.

Guides

Fuji T2 black Titanium SIC stripper guides (freshwater models) and Fuji T3 black Titanium SIC stripper guides (saltwater models) - The stripping guides used by Loomis are ultra-lightweight Titanium Cerecoil, selected specifically to minimize swing weight while providing a slick surface for shooting line and clearing backing knots during tough fights..

PVD Recoil snake guides - Moving up the blank, the Asquith 2 features flexible Titanium Snake guides. These components are impervious to saltwater corrosion and durable enough to withstand the rigors of boat travel, while also ensuring that the rod tip remains crisp and responsive by reducing mass near the tip.

Reel Seat

Custom Fixed Hood Reel Seat - G. Loomis has outfitted the Asquith 2 with a reel seat that balances aesthetic beauty with rugged functionality. On freshwater models (4-6wt), you will find a custom bamboo insert paired with lightweight aluminum hardware, keeping the overall rod weight to a minimum. The saltwater and heavy freshwater models (7-12wt) utilize a fully anodized aluminum seat with CI4+ inserts—a carbon-infused material borrowed from Shimano’s cycling division that provides a bombproof, corrosion-resistant lock on your reel that will not loosen during the fight.

A newly-designed Custom-Fixed Hood design enhances the reel’s overall  stability while also making the knurled feel of the nut componentry feel much more intuitive and natural.

Rod Tube

Protecting a fly rod of this caliber during its entire lifespan is essential, so the Asquith 2 comes housed in a custom-labeled, durable aluminum rod tube. Inside, a partitioned cloth rod sock ensures that the sections are kept separate to prevent micro-abrasions and manage moisture during transport, no matter how bumpy the ride gets en route to your destination.

Warranty

The Asquith 2 is backed by the G. Loomis Limited Lifetime Warranty, covering defects in materials and workmanship for the original owner. For non-warranty damage or accidental breakage, owners have access to the G. Loomis Xpeditor Service, a no-questions-asked replacement program that swaps your broken rod for a new one for a set fee, ensuring you get back on the water as quickly as possible.
