Flashback Pheasant Tail Fly

A popular take on Frank Sawyer's long-standing Pheasant Tail Nymph, the Flashback Pheasant Tail Fly is a nymph that you can rely on any time of the year. Tied to imitate most mayfly nymphs, this fly adopts a construction that's very similar to the classic Pheasant Tail Nymph. Like the Pheasant Tail Nymph, this fly has a tail and body of pheasant tail fibers and a wound peacock thorax, but its construction differs with the addition of a flashback wingcase. Working both as an element of attraction and imitation, this flashy wingcase makes it easy to catch the eye of fish and copy the air bubble found in emerging insects--this makes the Flashback Pheasant Tail Fly a great choice whenever mayflies are hatching.

Although the Flashback Pheasant Tail Fly is most commonly fished near the bottom, either on a tight line or under a float, it's also a great choice when fished unweighted in the spring and through fall whenever mayflies will be emerging.
