The Dark Lord Nymph is a great general attractor pattern, much like the Prince Nymph. This fly can be used to imitate a small stonefly, larger mayfly, and even a Caddis. Because of its weighted design featuring a bead head, it's a great pattern for freestone rivers and deeper bodies of water. Many guides use this pattern as a point fly in a double nymph rig and it's certainly most productive when fished under an indicator. That being said, it can also be swung to imitate a Caddis Pupa or an emerging insect. The two goose biots on top of the fly give the impression of wings or legs and the tail also helps trout identify this nymph in the water. While it is an incredibly simple pattern, it's also highly efficient when fishing new water for the first time or as a searching pattern when you're not sure what the trout are eating.
