The Story
The Chrome Chironomid features a flashy take on a typical stillwater nymph. This particular fly features a metallic body and bright red ribbing that reflects light to make this nymph incredibly flashy in lakes, ponds, and even rivers. These flies are available in a variety of sizes so you can match the hatch on your favorite pond or lake. They’re tied on a sharp, strong hook with a white bead head to give them a lifelike profile. The bead sinks the fly quickly so you can target trout on deeper water shelves. This fly works best when fished under an indicator or with a slow stillwater strip and should be fished wherever trout are cruising shorelines or shelves. This small nymph could also be used as a dropper off of a Calibaetis dry fly or a number of other popular stillwater dry flies. If you’re targeting trout on ponds or lakes this season, this is a great pattern to have in your box when classic chironomids aren’t working.
