$0.52The Story
This tiny midge nymph imitates an emerging midge swimming in the water column. For optimal success, fish it off the bottom so the fish see it as a midge swimming to the surface to emerge. The flash that’s tied just behind the thorax is a superb attractor for trout and gives the appearance of an air bubble trapped in a nymphal shuck as midges try to emerge. The detail on this fly is truly unparalleled and the black wing case gives effective contrast to the lighter body and tail of the fly. This fly has been put to the test on tricky tailwater fisheries such as Cheeseman’s Canyon on the South Platte and the Dream Stream. Unlike other midges, this fly doesn’t have a bead head, so some weight on your leader or tippet is required to keep it down past the surface. It also works well as a dropper fly off of a dry fly when fish are spooky and you don’t want to land an indicator in their vicinity.
