Blue Winged Olive Dry Fly

The Blue Winged Olive Dry Fly is a classic dry fly that gives anglers a direct imitation of just about any blue-winged olive that they can find. With over 150 different species hatching in North America alone, this is a fly that's worth carrying in any size found on your local water. Being such an abundant type of mayfly, BWOs can be found hatching almost anytime of the year, but their numbers are most prolific in the early spring season, through the summer, and into fall, and those who wish to match this fun hatch all year long should carry small sizes down to 20-22 as well as a few larger sizes like 12-14 for those summer cornutas.

With a traditionally hackled construction, dubbed olive body, and dun wings and hackling, this fly will ride well in the water while matching the true color of the insects. The Blue Winged Olive can be fished anywhere that you expect the naturals to hatch and will work best when greased with floatant and presented upstream or downstream on a drag-free drift.
