The Story

The Airflo Delta Taper Fly Line is engineered for anglers who prioritize line control, delicate presentation, and efficient casting on moving water. Built to bridge the gap between aggressive weight-forward shooting heads and traditional double tapers, this line offers a versatile solution for technical trout and grayling fishing. Its unique profile aids significantly in mending and roll casting, making it an exceptional choice for rivers where managing complex currents and tight backcast space is a daily requirement.

Features

Polyurethane Construction - Unlike traditional PVC lines, Airflo utilizes a polyurethane coating that is completely impervious to UV rays, sunscreen, and DEET. This chemical stability ensures the line resists cracking and delamination over time, providing a longer lifespan and consistent performance season after season.

Power Core Technology - The line is built on a low-stretch Power Core, which limits elasticity to approximately 6 percent compared to the 20 percent stretch found in standard lines. This rigidity improves casting energy transfer for tighter loops and ensures solid hook sets even when fishing at maximum distance.

Super Dri Coating - The exterior surface features a specialized hydrophobic coating that repels water and dirt, causing the line to float higher in the surface film. This high-floating characteristic reduces surface friction during the pickup, allowing for cleaner mends and easier line lifting.

Uses

Technical Dry Fly and Nymphing - The Delta Taper is specifically designed to enhance presentation when targeting wary fish in clear water. The extended taper dissipates energy gradually, allowing dry flies to touch down softly without splashing, while the substantial belly length provides the mass required to turn over long leaders and multi-fly nymph rigs.

Line Control and Mending - This line shines in river environments where drag-free drifts are essential. The weight distribution allows you to mend line easily at distance without moving the fly, giving you better control over the drift in varying current speeds. It creates a seamless connection between the rod tip and the leader, making it highly effective for complex water.

Temperature / Conditions

This product is formulated for cold to temperate freshwater environments. The supple coating remains memory-free and slick in freezing conditions, ensuring it shoots through the guides without coiling. It is perfectly suited for spring creeks, tailwaters, and freestone rivers found in typical trout climates.

Taper / Weight / Design

The hallmark of this line is its elongated front taper, which transitions gently into the belly rather than stepping down abruptly. This triangular "Delta" profile puts the mass exactly where it is needed to load the rod for single-hand spey casts and roll casts, yet it retains a finesse-oriented tip for precision work. The design creates a stable loop during overhead casting and prevents the hinging effect often felt with short-head lines.
